Privacy notice

Last updated: 1 November 2026

This notice explains how Contract Status ("we") handles personal information collected through this website, under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018. Information held inside the Contract Status software is covered by the terms and statements shown in the software.

You do not need to give any personal information to read the guides, use the tools or take the guided tour.

What we collect

When you...We collectWhy
Send the contact formYour name, work e-mail, company if you give it, and your messageTo reply to you
Ask for a demoYour name, work e-mail, company, and anything you choose to give: phone number, role, which side you are on, how many people would use it, which NEC contracts you use, when you are looking to start, and what you would like to seeTo arrange and prepare your demo
Ask for a downloadYour name, work e-mail, company and role if you give them, and which file you asked forTo send you the link, and to know which files are useful
Save or receive a quiz or role-play resultYour name, work e-mail, company and role if you give them, which quiz or role-play it was, and your resultTo give you your result, and to know what people find useful
Ask for a Word file from the Notice Builder or the business case calculatorYour name, work e-mail, company and role if you give them, the type of notice and contract form, the dates worked out, and for the calculator the figures you entered. What you type into a notice stays in your browser: the file is made on your own computerTo send you a reminder of the dates or a summary, and to know what is useful
Ask for your Contract Health Check reportYour name, work e-mail, company and role if you give them, your score, your weakest areas and your top risksTo give you your report, and so that we can offer relevant help if you ask for it
Ask for a summary of the guided tourYour name, work e-mail, company and role if you give them, and a list of what you did in the tourTo send you the summary, and to know what interests you. The tour sends nothing unless you ask for this

With each of these we also record the page you sent it from, the first page you visited on this site, and how you reached the form where that is known. This tells us which pages are helpful.

If you ask for a demo, your request also says what you tried on this site from this device, such as tour missions finished and quiz scores, so that we can prepare. That list is kept on your own device until you send the request.

We count visits to each kind of page, and uses of each tool, as a daily total on our own website. The count uses no cookie and keeps nothing that could identify you, and nothing goes to any other company.

Occasional e-mails: your choice

Our forms have a tick box to get occasional NEC guidance and news about Contract Status. It is not ticked for you, and leaving it empty does not stop you getting what you asked for. If you tick it, we may send you a short series of useful e-mails over a few weeks.

Every one of those e-mails has a link to stop them. It takes one click and takes effect straight away. We keep your e-mail address on a list of people who have opted out, so that we do not contact you again by mistake.

E-mails that you ask for directly, such as a reply to your enquiry or your download link, are not marketing and are sent whether or not you tick the box.

Our legal basis

  • Replying and sending what you asked for: our legitimate interest in answering enquiries, or taking steps you have asked for before entering a contract.
  • Understanding which pages and files are useful, and following up business enquiries: our legitimate interest in running and improving our business. You can object at any time.
  • Occasional e-mails: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time.

Where it is kept and who sees it

What you send is stored privately on the website's host, in records that are not public. Demo requests and enquiries are also e-mailed to our team. Our team reviews enquiries and other requests in our own internal system, which collects them from the website.

We do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising. Your details pass through the companies that host our website and deliver our e-mail. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Browser storage, cookies and fonts

This site uses your browser's storage for three things only: remembering what you typed into a form so you do not have to type it again, remembering the first page you visited, which is sent with a form if you submit one, and remembering which quiz questions you have already had, so that you get new ones. It stays in your browser unless you submit a form, and you can clear it at any time in your browser's settings.

Fonts on this site are served from the site itself, so no font company receives your details. We do not use analytics or advertising trackers. The only cookies are for the people who administer the website.

To stop the forms being misused, a scrambled copy of your internet address is kept for about an hour.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiries and requests only for as long as we need them to deal with your request and any relationship that follows, then delete them. Download links stop working after 14 days. Opt-out records are kept for as long as they are needed to respect your choice.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct or erase it, and object to or restrict how we use it. To do this, use our contact page. We reply within one month.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
