The commercial position of every contract, without asking anyone
You do not want to open a compensation event. You want to know how many are overdue, on which contracts, whether it is getting better or worse, and who you should talk to. Contract Status has a place built for exactly that.
You see more when you can't touch anything
A Commercial Director in Contract Status is view only on contract records, and their own work happens in their own tools: meetings, agreed actions and discussions about a contract. They are not on contract teams, so they are not sent every record e-mail. That keeps the position clear, and it means nothing you do can be mistaken for a Project Manager's decision.
Your meetings and notes are seen by Commercial Directors only.
Figures that are fair
Portfolio totals count each overdue item once. The people figures cover your commercial roles, by default Commercial Manager, Quantity Surveyor and Commercial. You can change the roles in Settings, and leave out named people who are only on teams for admin reasons.

A day with NEC, without it and with it
Without it
7am. Nothing yet. You will hear about it when somebody decides it is bad enough.
10am. You ask for the numbers. Commercial Managers send back whatever format they use.
2pm. You raise a late payment notice in a review. The team says it is in hand. You have no way to check.
5pm. The board pack is due. Someone stays late and types it up.
With Contract Status
7am. A digest e-mail arrives: what has gone overdue and what has been closed out. New alerts reach the bell within the hour.
10am. The overview shows the portfolio, and the items explorer takes you from the total to the item.
2pm. You agree an action in a meeting. You get an e-mail when it is closed, or if it is missed.
5pm. The reports and board pack are already there to download.
What you are really watching
You do not need to know every clause, but these are the ones that move money. They are watched for your team, using each contract's own periods.
Treated acceptance
Clauses 61.4, 62.6 and 64.4 can turn silence into a commitment, two weeks after a failure notice. Your account sees those before they land.
The time bar
On the Contractor's side, clause 61.3 can lose a change to the Prices after eight weeks. On a subcontract under the NEC4 ECS it is seven. Awareness dates are on the record.
Pay less notices
With Option Y(UK)2, seven days before the final date for payment. Once that is missed, the notified sum has to be paid.
Final assessment
NEC4 clause 53 brings the amount due to a close, then a referral window. The record shows the window and when it becomes conclusive.
Money approvals
You set limits by role. Over-limit quotation decisions and Task Orders come to the first person whose limit covers them, and you can approve from your own panel. You approve or send back, and never change the figures.
Trend, not just today
Monthly figures show whether a contract or team is getting better, so you can have the conversation before it becomes a dispute.
Questions Commercial Directors ask us
Do I need to be trained in the app? You need to read a dashboard. There are no contract records for you to fill in. An assistant can answer questions about the portfolio where AI is switched on for your account.
Can I see it on a phone? The app works on a computer, an iPad or a phone. The 7am digest comes to you either way.
Will my team feel watched? They already answer to these figures. What changes is that they stop preparing them by hand, and the conversation is about a date on a shared record.
Who else sees it? Your administrators add and remove Commercial Directors. Commercial Director meetings and notes stay with Commercial Directors.
